The Week 4 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans features a divisional rivalry that will be missing J.J. Watt for the first time ever.
"We knew what was at stake", outside linebacker Derrick Morgan said. The Texans should have what it takes to get the win over a Titans team that produces more questions than answers, both offensively and defensively.
It was the first time Houston (3-1) had played without its star defensive end since the 2010 season after Watt, who is out for the season after back surgery, had started 83 straight games since being drafted in 2011.
TEXANS offense managed only 284 yards in Week 3 loss to Patriots, with QB Brock Osweiler looking very ordinary (24-41-196-0 TDs-1 INT-60.6 QB rating). It was Clowney that led a defensive stand that kept the Titans from taking advantage of that mistake. But running back Lamar Miller continues to be a steady and consistent part of the offense and rookie wideout Will Fuller has made his presence felt in all three of the team's victories this season.
The Titans had multiple chances to seize the game but were undone by penalties and a 67-yard punt-return score by Texans rookie Will Fuller that held up for the winning margin. "We toughed it out".
Fuller snapped a 20-all tie and salvaged the Texans (3-1) from an uneven performance. He left the game later in the first half, with four catches for 48 yards, with a knee injury and was marked as questionable to return. Mike Mularkey said after the game the Titans have to find a way "to win these games" and stop "making the mistakes" they are making.
It'll be interesting to see if O'Brien is able to do enough to light a spark under this offense, which will desperately need to take their game up to another level in order to help out the defense, especially after losing Watt potentially for the season.
Head coach Bill O'Brien said Fuller a "good player" who's been studying hard and staying focused. There have been 12 Titans-Texans games all-time that have been decided by seven points or fewer and Tennessee has won nine of them.
NO EXCUSES: Houston quarterback Brock Osweiler is in his fourth year in the National Football League, but spent most of that time as a backup and has just 10 career starts.
On fourth-and-6 at the Texans' 28, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota threw high and behind a stumbling Andre Johnson on the final play. LB Brian Orakpo had sack in last game at Houston.
