Red Cross and Sprint Partner Up on Platelet Awareness Campaign in October

Red Cross Seeks Blood Donations During Breast Cancer Awareness Month Woburn's Blood Drive

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the American Red Cross is asking eligible donors to support cancer patients by donating.

"I was a nurse for 40 years", said Mary Kay Huppert, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. The Red Cross must collect approximately 14,000 blood and platelet donations every day for the patients at about 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide.

Even before the hurricane threat, there was an urgent need for donors of all blood types, especially Type O.

October 31: noon to 5 p.m., Terryville Congregational Church, 233 Main St.

Donors are urged to use the Red Cross RapidPass to save time by doing their pre-reading and donation questions online. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

On Monday through Wednesday from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Thursdays from 7:30 a.m.to 2:30 p.m., on Friday from 8 a.m.to 3 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m.to 2 p.m. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

A community blood drive organized by the American Red Cross has been scheduled in Princeton next week.
