Seoul says North Korean soldier crosses the border to defect

South Korea will build or buy a new anti drone laser defense after failing to down North Korean drones in August

South Korea and U.S. military have chose to deploy THAAD missile defense system at a golf course in the southeastern part of the country to counter the potential missile threat from North.

The aerial defence system, which the United States has offered to South Korea as a counter balance against the nuclear and missile experiments carried out by reclusive North Korea, will do no good for regional stability, the Chinese official said.

The revised decision comes 2 1/2 months after Seoul and Washington picked the Seongsan anti-aircraft missile base in Seongju, 296 kilometers southeast of Seoul, to host the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system by 2017. There are at least eight golf courses in in the country that Nicklaus designed, according to the company's website.

North Korea has threatened to launch a retaliatory strike against the THAAD deployment, and turn the South "into a sea of fire and a pile of ashes". But opposition to the new site emerged immediately.

The new location is still strategically suitable to defend most of the South against the North's missile threats, though the decision may cause fresh rounds of protests from other concerned parties.

China also issued a strongly worded statement, repeating that THAAD and its radar system are a direct threat to China and Russian Federation, and would be useless against a North Korea attack.

In a commentary, the ruling Communist Party's official newspaper the People's Daily said China's opposition to Thaad would never change as it was a serious threat to the regional strategic security balance.

South Korea announced on Friday a site change for the USA missile shield system.

"China has made its position on THAAD clear many times", China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Geng Shaung said Friday during a regular press conference.

The club is owned by the Lotte Group conglomerate and had been considered as an alternative due to its high altitude and accessibility for military vehicles, the defense official said.

The U.S.is further putting the brakes on North Korea's nuclear and missile ambitions, by introducing a bill that aims to shut the regime out of the global banking system.

The US and South Korea claim that THAAD's deployment is not aimed against any third countries, be it China or Russian Federation, which also has voiced opposition to the installation. "And it is part of a layered system of defense that will augment many military installations and systems now in place.
